It's about 10:30 in the morning right now. I got a job at Aldo in my local mall, and today is my first day! I applied in February, and I kept calling and calling to get follow ups and I finally got an interview and got the job. I absolutely adore my boss. She's so sweet, and her wardrobe is something to be admired. And working with two men that remind me of "Sassy Gay Friend" just makes it even better. This job is like heaven on Earth. Being around shoes and handbags all day long. And I get paid for it... Seems too good to be true...
When I applied to Aldo, I had a really good feeling about it, and I kept getting signs all day long. All the other stores I went to were out of applications. It was then that I knew that I was going to get the job. I'm really excited to start. Being independent is a good feeling. And I cannot wait to feed my closet with the paychecks.
Sorry this blog post is so short, but I wanted to kind of document today. More blogs to come for sure. I have a lot of ideas planned. My makeup and hair are done, my outfit is perfect... I'm ready to go. I'm so excited you guys. It's almost ridiculous. Most people my age don't even want a job, but I have wanted one for two years now. All of those clothes from American Apparel that I love will be in my closet soon enough. Life is just grand.
Cheers,

Lingerie Lust: Bralets
I have been lusting over bralets lately for lingerie. I'm becoming an addict. I want to buy every one in sight. The ones above are available at topshop for about 40 bucks a pop. They're incredibly sexy, and yet they give an updated, soft, feminine twist on the classic corset. For me, I wouldn't just wear this as an undergarment. I would wear one of these with a pair of high waisted denim shorts and maybe a leather jacket or a chunky cardigan. I think these are really fun and versatile. Perfect for the hot summer months. What do you guys think?

Album: "Lust Lust Lust" by The Raveonettes
This is one of my favorite albums of the moment. I'll start off by telling you that it's fantastic and to definitely check it out. I fell in love with The Raveonettes a few years ago and recently re-discovered them and downloaded more of their songs after seeing a new song of theirs featured on rcrdlbl.com. (Check that site out by the way. I get a ton of free music from there. They have almost every genre.)
Another reason I looked into this album was because of the summer playlist I just made and published on here. "Blush" by them is on the summer playlist, but my favorite on the album is "With My Eyes Closed". I have it on repeat as I'm typing this. So good. The sound of this album, to me, is a mixture of lo-fi, indie rock, and dream pop. There's a mixture of smooth, lo-fi guitars, soft tambourines, intense drum beats, and dreamy vocals.
The best way I can describe it is perfect. It's the best album for summer and for anytime, really. I can't think of a time when I wouldn't be in the mood to listen to this album. Hearing it come on when my itumes is on shuffle is almost like a relief. I can't emphasize how much I adore this band. The lyrics and vocals are fantastic as well. I always lean towards music that has this sound and vibe to it. The Raveonettes are one of my go-to bands for good music. I know everything they put out is going to be great. ("Love in a Trashcan was my myspace profile song for so long. RIP myspace.) Definitely one of my favorites. I rate the album five stars.

My first experience with a pistol.
Well, this morning was hilarious and kind of scary all at the same time. I wake up at 7am every morning to go with my Dad to run his morning errands. Today was a little different as we drove out into the desert to fire his pistol that he inherited from my late Grandfather.
If there are people out there reading this that have never been to or seen New Mexico, you should know that it's a strange place to live. There's patches of desert everywhere, and basically the entire west side (where I live, unfortunately) is a suburb living in the middle of a dessert next to huge mesas. It's beautiful, but walking through the sand to get to a safe place to shoot a vintage revolver is a pain in the ass.
So, we were on our way home and my Dad wanted to teach me to shoot a gun, which being an almost 17 year old girl that lives for fashion and the arts, I had no interest in whatsoever. He said I would feel a thrill when I shot it, like an adrenaline rush that's better than sex, but I am telling you now, I felt nothing. That's beside the point though.
We walked out into the desert where we usually go hiking, and he loaded his pistol and shot it probably five times, laughing every time he shot it. I know for a fact that we're not supposed to shoot inside city limits, so I kept telling him "Dad, we're right by a neighborhood, we're going to get in trouble." And my Dad being the cocky guy he is said, "I can talk my way out of anything if we get popped." And so I sighed heavily and trudged along behind him until we were far enough out in the desert so that the houses were not visible.
He handed me the gun, showed me how to cock it, and then I aimed and shot. Now, I thought that it was going to have a ton of power and knock me right on my ass, but all it did was make a loud pop that made my ears ring for a few minutes. It wasn't that great.
So, then this guy that was walking on the trail right by we were shooting asked us to stop for awhile while he walked by, and we said okay. Then my Dad got paranoid and so we headed back to the car. On the way, my Dad spotted a white, glistening cop car. He started to panic. I told him that the cop had no proof that it was us (unless he were to walk up to us and see the pistol in the holster on my Dad's belt), and lucky for us, we parked far enough away from the cop that he couldn't even see the car. So we got in and drove off.
Then, on the way home, there was a cop behind us. I knew we weren't going to get pulled over because 1. we were going the speed limit and not driving recklessly, and 2. the cop didn't know that the people that had fired the gun were in a car like ours (if he even knew about the gun shots). We were home free. Still, my Dad was panicking and saying "Oh my god, he's gonna pull us over. I'm going to jail.". I told him to stay calm and act natural, not that he needed to because the cop had passed us and eventually turned off onto another street. My Dad was relieved because he had it in his head that we were going to have company at our house if we were followed. We wondered then if there was even a cop in the cop car we had seen while in the desert on the way back to the car, because we remembered that we see that same cop car every time we go hiking. He or she must live in one of those cookie-cutter brick or adobe houses.
Realizing this, we starting laughing our asses off that we got scared at all, but I told him that I would tell my kids that the first time I fired a gun I almost got arrested. Just to spice up the story. I don't think I'll ever fire a gun again. I'm just not into it.

Album: "Grown Unknown" by Lia Ices
This album is one of my most recent purchases. I was in Hastings the other day and picked up the latest edition of Zink magazine and in the music section of it, discovered this album. The reviews were mixed, only receiving 3 stars, but I went straight home and previewed the album anyway. I loved it right from the start. If you like the singer/songwriter genre and songs that are soft and pretty, this is the perfect album for you. The acoustic guitar and piano sound mixed with violins and wind instruments creates this harmonious melody that reminds me of peaceful sceneries and flowers. That sounds lame, but it does. It's really different than what I've been hearing lately, and I like that. It made me feel refreshed musically. I don't find many albums like this these days that I like entirely or sound this good. I'd definitely recommend previewing it and buying it. (And check out Zink magazine too.)
My favorite track on the album is "Daphne" so far. This is a great road trip album for me as well. I always lean towards soft acoustic sounds while traveling. This album will definitely be playing on my drive to Colorado and other places this summer. It'll make the scenery seem even more vivid. Definitely check it out. I give it 4 stars.
Cheers,

Wardrobe staple: chunky platform heels
To the left, you see the beautiful Lita heel by Jeffrey Campbell.. I've been really into heels like this lately, and this shoe is literally the epitome of my favorite kind of heel. I've always preferred chunky heels over the classic pump heel because it's sturdier and easier to walk in. The Lita is a 5 incher. I've been living in heels lately and a 5 inch heel doesn't seem so big to me anymore. I used to steer clear from heels all together because I'm already almost 5'10", but I got over that and started to wear them non-stop. At present, I feel awkward without them. I've gotten so comfortable in chunky platforms that wearing a regular stilleto is uncomfortable to walk in. The platform makes all the difference in the way of comfort and walking ease. I always tell people that when they're heel shopping. It's rule of thumb for me. You could walk the city in these if you wanted to and your feet wouldn't feel like a monster truck ran them over at the end of the day.
This is my favorite kind of heel because of the ease and comfort in walking, but they also give a higher sense of glamor and style to an outfit rather than the basic pump or stilleto. For me, this shoe will never go out of style. Even when I am 90 and people are dressing like Xena the warrior princess in space, I will still be wearing this shoe. Seriously.
This is my big Spring/Summer 2011 must have in the way of shoes for sure. And it has become a staple in my wardrobe. I think every girl should have a pair like this in her closet. For girls out there that are afraid of heights, so to speak, don't be afraid to be really tall. You get used to it after awhile.
I like that you can wear this shoe with so much as well. From dresses, to pants, to shorts... it's really versitile. Did I mention this shoe comes in tons of colors and prints too? Because it does. (May I suggest checking out the floral tapestry ones. So fantastic.)
How I wear it: My favorite way to wear these is to pair them with a pair of riding pants and a sleeveless button up tucked in. Don't forget the right bag to top it off.
The Jeffrey Campbell's are available on solestruck.com for $160, but less expensive alternatives can also be found. Like these.
